Spanish

The skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing are taught through the following topics:

KS3 Spanish

Autumn TermSpring TermSummer Term
Year 7My lifeSchoolHouse and Home
Year 8HolidaysFree-timeFood and drink

There is a cultural theme that runs through each of our topics which enables students to explore the similarities and differences between life in England and life in Spain and other Spanish speaking countries.

The grammar content in year 7 includes: nouns and genders, adjectives and adjectival agreements, modifiers, connectives, extended sentences, writing in paragraphs, using a range  of opinions and using the Present, Past, and Future tenses. In year 8 students have the opportunity to consolidate and develop their understanding of the areas covered in year 7. Students deepen their knowledge and understanding of the language key grammar in preparation for the GCSE course.

Our KS3 course aims to encourage students to develop an interest in the Spanish language and culture. Our course also develops many transferrable skills which are essential in the modern workplace, communication skills, team working skills, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, problem solving skills and organisational skills.

Key Stage 4 Spanish

The Key Stage 4 course aims to build on the language knowledge and skills gained in Key Stage 3. The department follows the WJEC examination board. Students are entered for either higher or foundation tier at the end of year 10 in the 4 skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students can be entered for a combination of these skills, depending on their strengths in each of the 4 skills.
