Helping your child at home

Children in nursery can choose a book for interest and enjoyment to share at home. These books are changed every Monday and the children can keep them until the following week. In a home/school booklet, parents can record the books that have been read.

Each child is also given an ‘Interest Book’ to help us learn more about their interests and experiences outside of nursery. Please encourage and help your child to use this book regularly to share their interests, experiences and ideas with us.

Your child will require a bag to take their books home. Blue Nursery bags are available from Reception for you to purchase should you wish to.

Additional ways of supporting your child:-

  • Join the local library
  • Read regularly to your child, books you have in your home, eg at bedtime
  • Taking the opportunity to turn out of school activities into learning experiences.
  • Sing lots of nursery rhymes and simple songs with them.
  • Sing number songs and count aloud, at home and when you are out and about, eg show your child how to count objects carefully.
  • If you would like further help in supporting your child’s learning at home, please see your child’s class teacher.
