Curriculum Intent

In Design and Technology our intent is to inspire, challenge and motivate every student at KS3 and KS4 by providing students with a range of creative and exciting opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills in creative subjects. Students develop their confidence and resilience in an environment that welcomes creativity and self-expression, encouraging them to explore their own ideas and interests whilst taking pride in their achievements.

Hospitality and Catering provides young people with the knowledge and skills in food preparation, cooking and nutrition. It is the study of the quality, safety and nutritional purposes of foods and aims to give the understanding required to meet customer’s demands for good quality, safe and sustainable food.

Child Development provides students with the knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of parenthood. Whilst appreciating the best conditions for a child to develop and thrive. It encourages students to recognise and manage the needs of children.

In the primary phase we provide students with the opportunity to experience design & Technology. Specialist staff from the secondary phase deliver lessons in textiles and food. This early introduction to design & technology enables students to develop a love for learning within the subject and helps imbed an all through curriculum.

In the Secondary phase we provide students at Key Stage 3 with the skills and knowledge required to be successful at Key Stage 4. A love of learning is acquired through practical activity.

At Key Stage 4 we will ensure that we are running specifications that are accessible for our students. We aim to provide students with opportunities in their learning that will encourage and inspire them to aim higher. This will include future career opportunities, industry visits and links with Sixth Form colleges.

Mini assessment points have been introduced across all year groups at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with time allocated to deepen knowledge.
